Do you have a legal version of Windows and Office?
Some computer builders and retailers supply illegal versions of Windows and Office, as a user you have the right to have legal software, some even bypass the MPA. Microsoft Product Activation (MPA) is required for all the following products: Microsoft Office XP, Windows Vista, Word 2002, Windows XP, Microsoft Visio 2002, Microsoft FrontPage 2002, Microsoft Project 2002 and all later products. The only exclusion from this if for volume licence purchases, but an accompanying Certificate of Authenticity is required for the OEM product to be legal. Some OEM suppliers do not supply the disk, but instead will supply recovery or restore media. You may have to create these yourself though, but importantly you will still have a COA.
